**Job Title:** Virtual Writer for Cope Guides (East Asia)
**Organisation:** Orbis Non / Cope Publications

**Location:** Virtual (with occasional collaboration with the to-be Osaka-based team)
**Travel Requirement:** Frequent travel within Japan (with occasional assignments in South Korea)

**About Orbis Non:**
Orbis Non is an innovative Media organisation, built on a global network of talented writers who work together to create content that challenges conventional narratives. We specialize in producing travel and cultural publications that offer a fresh, insider perspective, with a focus on authenticity and originality. Our city guides are known for their in-depth, anonymous reviews of destinations, restaurants, hotels, and cultural experiences.

Our writers aren’t just part of an organisation —they’re part of a creative collective. This collective approach allows for intellectual engagement and the freedom to explore new ideas. We value critical thinkers who aren’t afraid to question the status quo.

**Job Description:**
We are looking for passionate and experienced writers to join our team and contribute to our travel publications. The ideal candidate will have a strong journalistic background and a deep interest in immersing themselves in Japanese culture. You will be responsible for reviewing destinations, restaurants, hotels, and cultural events across Japan, providing readers with original insights and thought-provoking commentary.

This position requires frequent travel **within Japan**, with occasional assignments in **South Korea**. To ensure a comprehensive understanding of Japanese culture and local life, we recommend candidates to either live in Japan full-time or be prepared to make the country their primary base.

**Key Responsibilities:**
– Write engaging, well-researched articles on a wide variety of travel topics—focusing on cities, cultural experiences, hotels, restaurants, and local life across Japan.
– Travel frequently to explore different regions within Japan, experiencing local culture and providing authentic, first-hand content.
– Occasionally travel to **South Korea** for specific assignments, capturing the essence of the destination and cultural nuances.
– Work anonymously—your name will not appear on any publications or promotional materials. The focus remains entirely on the content itself.
– Collaborate with our virtual team of writers and participate in brainstorming sessions with the to-be team in **Osaka**, where occasional in-person meetups and idea exchanges will occur.
– Share valuable insights, travel tips, and research with your colleagues to help build a well-rounded, diverse body of work.
– Create high-quality, original content that challenges traditional views and offers readers fresh, informed perspectives on the destinations we cover.

**Required Qualifications:**
– Proven background in journalism, writing, or publishing, with a portfolio of published work. Experience in travel writing is a plus, though not required.
– Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a strong ability to adapt tone and style to suit different types of content.
– A critical thinker who is able to examine cultural and travel topics from multiple perspectives.
– Familiarity with Japanese culture, travel trends, and global destinations. Knowledge of South Korea is a plus.
– A self-starter who can work independently in a virtual, flexible environment and meet deadlines consistently.
– Willingness to travel frequently throughout **Japan** (several times per week), with occasional assignments in **South Korea**.
– **Ideally, the candidate should either be a permanent resident of Japan** or be open to relocating for the position, as immersive, on-the-ground research is essential to the role.
– Willingness to maintain strict discretion regarding your affiliation with Orbis Non — writers must not disclose or promote their connection to Orbis Non on any public-facing platforms, including LinkedIn or personal websites. This helps ensure that no companies gain unfair advantages in our guides or try to pressure employees into artificially favourable reviews.

**Additional Information:**
– This is a **virtual** role, with the flexibility to work from anywhere. However, you’ll collaborate closely with a physical team soon to be based in **Osaka**, where occasional in-person brainstorming sessions will take place.
– Writers are compensated on a **per-article** basis with competitive pay.
– **Anonymity and discretion are paramount**: Writers must not publicly advertise their involvement with Orbis Non, even after their tenure ends. You may not reference your work experience with us on professional networks like LinkedIn or other social media platforms.
– Upon completion of your role with Orbis Non, we will provide a **decree letter of recommendation**, but public references to your affiliation with Orbis Non are prohibited. Again, the reason is to maintain discretion around the guides’ current employees and working methods, so that they can remain as impartial as possible.

**Why Join Orbis Non?**
– Contribute to an innovative and dynamic media organisation that challenges conventional views on travel and culture.
– Collaborate with a diverse network of writers and thinkers from around the globe.
– Immerse yourself in the rich culture of **Japan** and occasionally **South Korea**, with the opportunity to gain in-depth, authentic knowledge of the region.
– Competitive compensation, with the flexibility to live and work in a vibrant and exciting part of the world.

Position is expected to start Q1/Q2 2026.
